Wood Anemone: Anemone nemorosa
Element: Air
Like constellations in the shade, delicate six-pointed stars carry the lineage of the landscape into the future.
Wood Anemones belong beneath trees that have stood for centuries, lighting up their branches from below, beckoning the green buds above to open. They bring the winds of change across the woodland floor to summon the awakening spring.
Like the wind, they are delicate and strong. Their feathery leaves, white petals and starburst anthers are ethereal yet rooted.
In the day, the flowers look to the sky and proclaim the return of the light. In the evening and in rain, the flowers close and turn to face the ground forming protective shelters for fairies.
Wood Anemones live on the borders between seasons and realms, light and shade in a fleeting expression of harmony, traversing worlds with a light touch.
When the world seems heavy, and winter is throwing hailstones at the door of spring, starbursts of white are a reminder that the light is returning.
